Midget Raiders name all-stars, take home league award

October 16, 2007
STEINBACH - The MFLM season has come to an end, the Midget Raiders finished with the same record as last season, however they will fall 2 points shy of securing a playoff positon. However before the post-season begins, teams selected their MLFM league all-stars, and the league selected their annual award winners. This year the Raiders were allowed to select 4 players as league all-stars.

Luc Ducharme, Randy Hayden, Alex Pilloud and Brent Noelette were selected by the Raiders coaching staff as the Raiders MFLM league all-stars.

Luc Ducharme (#77)

Randy Hayden (#45)

Alex Pilloud (#99)

Brent Noelette (#24)

Kelly Sansregret (#18)

Luc Ducharme (#77) led all receivers in the league with 856 yards which left him more than 400 yards ahead of the second place receiver. He hauled in 7 touchdowns and was virtually unstoppable on the field.

Randy Hayden (#45) played Iron Man all season long, playing Left Tackle and filling in at Centre on the Offensive Line, and playing Defensive End along the Defensive Line. He was solid on the O-Line, and led the all Defensive Linemen in the league with 35 tackles.

Alex Pilloud (#99) started at Safety and Linebacker at different times throughout the season. Alex was a force on defense, whether dropping back in coverage, stopping the run, or providing pressure with pass rushing. While he missed the season opener he came back and made up for lost time, finishing 4th in the league in tackles.

Brent Noelette (#24) was a dominant force at Middle Linebacker. Making tackles all over the field, Brent was the top run stopper on the Raiders defense, making it difficult for opponents to run the ball up the middle. While injuries limited him to only 5 games this season, he still finished second in the league with 56 tackles, just 4 shy of first.

Raiders Quarterback, Kelly Sansregret (#18), also took home an award. He was one of the three players who finished in a 3 way tie in awards voting for the MFLM Rookie of the Year Award. Kelly was impressive as a rookie quarterback, throwing for 1,400 yards and tossing 11 TD passes in his first season. This is the first time a Raiders player has won the Rookie of the Year award.

The Raiders will also hand out several team awards at the Raiders wind-up on November 2nd.

Raiders League All-Stars:
SB, Luc Ducharme (#77)
LT/DE, Randy Hayden (#45)
S/LB, Alex Pilloud (#99)
MLB, Brent Noelette (#24)

MFLM Rookie of the Year:
QB, Kelly Sansregret (#18)

Atom Grey Raiders sunk by St Vital

October 14, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
ST VITAL - What an exciting game. The Raiders came out full force in the first half and the defense was amazing. The score at the half was St Vital 6, Raiders 0. The team was ready for the win and played all out. Unfortunately the Raiders made a few wrong plays in the third quarter and the Mustangs took advantage and scored. The Raiders came back in the fourth to hold them but just couldn’t get across the goal line. Final score was 32-0 for the Mustangs. This finishes an amazing season for the Atoms! Congrats everyone.

Midget Raiders end season with loss to Lions

Story Image

October 13, 2007
FORT GARRY - The Raiders went into Saturday's coming off the momentum of a big win just 6 days earlier in the mud and rain in Transcona. The first quarter would end scoreless as both the Lions and Raiders defenses would step up, making most of the first half a battle for field position. Then late in the second, trailing 4-0, Raiders QB Kelly Sansregret (#18) would hit SB Luc Ducharme (#77) for his 7th receiving touchdown of the season, it would be Sansregret's 11th touchdown pass of the season. However two scores with less than two minutes remaining in the half would have the Lions going into halftime with a 17-6 lead. The second half would have more field position battles as the Raiders and Lions would jockey for field position. However the Lions would add two more scores taking a 28-6 lead. While the offense had trouble moving the ball through the redzone, the Raiders defense would make sure that the score would not go higher, highlighted by an impressive goal line stand. With the Lions offense having 1st and goal on the 1 yard line, the Raiders defense would not budge as the Lions would fail in three attempts to break through to the end zone. Despite being held by a tough Lions defense, the Raiders offense would keep fighting till the final whistle, making a final march downfield, however time would run out for the Raiders on the Lions 17 yard line, making 28-6 the final score.

FUNK'S TOYOTA OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE GAME:
#18, QB - Kelly Sansregret (305 yards passing, 1 TD)
#77, SB - Luc Ducharme (124 yards receiving, 1 TD)

PRIORITY AUTO SERVICE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME:

Bantam Raiders beat by Transcona

October 13, 2007
TRANSCONA - It was an incredible autumn afternoon, as far as the weather was concerned, but out on the football field, the Bantam Raiders struggled in a 34-6 loss to the home-team Transcona Nationals. The quick exit from the playoffs is sure to be a disappointment for the team, but the Raiders should be proud of their improvement this season. It was only a year ago, that they finished the 2006 campaign with only 1 win in total. This year, they went 4 and 4 in the regular season and made it to the post season. Perhaps next year they'll be challenging for the Bantam championship? Way to go, Bantams!

Peewee Raiders fall to Fort Garry

October 13, 2007
FORT GARRY - The Peewee Raiders took to the field to face off against the Fort Garry Lions, for the Raiders second game of the MMFA post-season. The Raiders jumped ahead to an early lead, going up by 12-0 at one point, but unfortunately the Lions then went on to score 22 unanswered points to take the game by a final score of 22-12. The loss brings the Raiders 2007 season to an end.

Post-season play for both Raiders Terminator teams

October 10, 2007
STEINBACH - Although the Terminator teams don't keep track of game scores and standings, they will still be involved in some "post-season" play. Football Manitoba's playoff schedule has our Raiders Grey team in a Saturday matchup at 12:00pm, October 13th, verses the St James Rods Silver team. Then on Sunday morning, October 14th, at 11:30am, the Raiders Teal team will play against the St James Rods Black. Both of these games are to be played at the Crescentwood Grizzlies field, just off of Corydon Avenue in Winnipeg.

Thanksgiving weekend, Midget Raiders feast on Nationals

Story Image

October 8, 2007
TRANSCONA - The Midget Raiders rolled into Transcona on Thanksgiving Monday for their second clash of the season with the Transcona Nationals. Having given up a single point in the previous meeting, the Raiders defense was going in looking for the shutout, while the Raiders offense was looking to get back into their mid-season form after scoring only 13 points in their last two games. The Raiders may have had plenty to be thankful for, the weather was definitely not one of them. With the temperature floating just above freezing, combined with constant rain and wind, it was set up to be a true test of toughness. The first half both teams battled not only the opposing defense, but also slippery and muddy conditions which made handling the football an adventure to say the least. However late in the second quarter the Raiders would start on their own 10 yard line and would proceed to drive the entire length of the field capped off with 4 yard TD run by Raiders FB Joel Lajoie (#93). Lajoie would put up his biggest numbers of the season, rushing the ball 13 times for 77 yards. Lajoie would take all his carries straight down through the middle, regularly getting hit after 1 or 2 yards and then carrying several defenders anywhere from 3 to 8 yards further. The Raiders defense would force their share of turnovers with forced fumbles from Alex Pilloud (#99), Brent Noelette (#24), and Evan Letkeman (#39), the Raiders defense also had interceptions from Evan Letkeman (#39), and Zach Loewen (#42). Raiders QB Kelly Sansregret would throw for two TD's in the second half, one to RB TJ Stapleton (#20) and the second to SB Luc Ducharme (#77), he would also run one in for a TD as well. The Raiders improve their record to 3-4 and now look ahead to next Saturday's game against the Fort Garry Lions, it will be the second meeting for the two teams. Kickoff is 12:30pm.

Peewee Raiders drop Broncos to advance to semi-finals

Story Image

October 7, 2007
STEINBACH - What an exciting playoff game for the Eastman Peewee Raiders. If you weren't there, you sure missed an incredible game! The Raiders were ahead for much of the first half, but the Broncos scored a touchdown to go ahead by a score of 14-13 at half-time. The two teams battled for position throughout most of the second half, before the Raiders finally put together a gutsy drive to score the game-winning touchdown near the end of regulation time. Final score was Raiders 21, Charleswood Broncos Gold 14. The victory lifts the Raiders into the next round of playoff action, and I'm sure they will be anxiously waiting to find out who their next opponent will be. The schedule for the second week of the playoffs should be available shortly, and details will be posted on this website.

Atom Grey Raiders win play-off game

Story Image

October 7, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
STEINBACH - The Eastman Atom Grey Raiders jumped ahead to a 14-0 lead, early in this chilly October morning matchup, and they never looked back as they romped to a 39-20 win over the visiting St Vital Mustangs White team. Darby Gula again played a miraculous game for the Raiders offense by running in five touchdowns. He broke many tackles and with the help of his offensive line was able to get through and score. The defense again played unbelievable. They made a strong Mustangs White offensive team stop in their tracks and held them to only 20 points. Great tackles were made by the defense with Justin Marchand again stepping up and showing a strong game. The Atom Grey played hard and continued to dominate throughout the game without letting up. The team just keeps getting stronger and stronger. The Atom Grey Raiders will advance to the second round of the Atom playoffs, and details for that game should be available within a couple of days.

Broncos beat Bantam Raiders

Story Image

October 6, 2007
CHARLESWOOD - During the first half of today's game in Charleswood, the Bantam Raiders certainly held their own. They jumped ahead to a quick 8-3 lead on the scoreboard and sayed in front of the undefeated Broncos until half-time. Unfortunately for the Raiders, Charleswood managed to score 19 unanswered points in the second half, as they took the game by a score of 22-8. Near the end of the game, a Charleswood player was injured after being tackled. An ambulance was called out to the scene, and with only 50 seconds remaining on the game clock, the teams agreed to call it a day. (Note: game photos taken during this game may be viewed at the photographer's website after they are uploaded.) The Raiders end the season with a record of 4 wins and 4 losses: good enough to secure a spot in the playoffs, but not good enough to earn home-field advantage and so they will begin the playoffs on the road. Specific playoff details will be posted on this website when they are announced.

Terminator Grey schedule change

October 2, 2007
STEINBACH - This Sunday's Terminator game between the Raiders Grey and the Grizzlies Orange has been pushed back by one hour. The game was originally scheduled for a 9:00am start, but will now be played at 10:00am instead. (This information is according to the Football Manitoba schedule update that was released earlier this morning.)

Playoff quarter-final matchups

October 1, 2007
STEINBACH - Based on information posted on the Football Manitoba website earlier today, it looks as if the Eastman Raiders will be involved in the following quarter-final playoff matchups:

Peewee (Saturday Division):
Charleswood Broncos Gold (4-4, 5th place) @ Eastman Raiders (6-2, 4th place)
Game time is 1:30pm on Sunday, October 7th at A. D. Penner Park in Steinbach.
Note: the Raiders won their regular-season contest, by a score of 59-48 on Aug. 18/07.

Atom (Sunday Division):
St Vital Mustangs White (4-4, 5th place) @ Eastman Raiders Grey (4-4, 4th place)
Game time is 11:00am on Sunday, October 7th at A. D. Penner Park in Steinbach.
Note: the Mustangs White won their regular-season contest, by a score of 35-6 on Aug. 26/07.

Unfortunately, it appears that our Atom Teal Raiders team has been eliminated from playoff contention, based on a complicated set of tie-breaking rules. There were six different Atom teams with identical records of 2 wins and 6 losses. These teams were ranked firstly on their head-to-head game results, and secondly according to the fewest-points allowed. When all things were taken into account, the Atom Teal Raiders were edged out of the playoff pool.

Midget Raiders come up short against Rods

Story Image

September 29, 2007
ST JAMES - Both teams battled a strong winds would play a factor in the game and the defensive units of both teams would be the story of the first half, as only 4 points would be scored, giving the Rods a 4-0 lead at half-time. However for the second game in a row, undisciplined penalties would cost the Raiders at several key points, the Rods would also add a couple big plays in the second half to finish with a 25-0 victory. The Raiders offense will be looking to bounce back this long weekend as they travel out to Transcona for the second time this season on Thanksgiving Monday. The Raiders won the previous contest 47-1. Kickoff is Monday at 3:00 pm.

Nomads down Bantam Raiders

Story Image

September 29, 2007
STEINBACH - The North Winnipeg Nomads were in Steinbach to play our Eastman Bantam Raiders. The Nomads had jumped ahead on the scoreboard, but less than a minute before half-time there was a very scary occurance on the field. Brandon Watchorn (#25) of the Raiders suffered an awkward hit as he was fielding the ball after a Nomads kick-off. He lay motionless on the field, and the trainers attended to him until an ambulance was dispatched to the scene. (At the hospital, Watchorn was later diagnosed with a concussion.) When the play resumed, the Raiders were able to score a few touchdowns, but the Nomads matched their pace all the way, and stayed ahead on the scoreboard for the duration of the contest. Final score was Nomads 41, Raiders 26. The Bantam Raiders close out their regular season next Saturday with a visit to Charleswood to take on the Broncos.

Peewee Raiders end regular season with loss to Nomads

Unfortunately things didn't turn out the way the Raiders were hoping, as they lost the game by a final score of 20-13. However the Raiders do end the season with a very impressive record of 6 wins with only 2 losses. The schedule for the first week of the playoffs should be available shortly, and details will be posted on this website.

Atom Grey Raiders headed towards post-season play

September 29, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
STEINBACH - What a game today! The Atom Grey Raiders played a rare Saturday afternoon match-up against the St Vital Mustangs Black. (Note: the Atom Grey Raiders usually play their games on Sundays, but today was an exception as it marks the end of the regular season.) The whole team played an absolutely fabulous game. There were a couple of changes on offense and it seemed to be the way to go. The offense gained a lot of rushing yardage with some great running plays that led the team to a victory. But let's not forget a dominating defense that held the Mustangs to only one touchdown. Stand-out offensive runs were held by Darby Gula and Justin Ducharme with great rushing by Callie Denis. The offense was lead by strong QB, Vital Renaud who would change the plays after seeing the way the Mustang defense would line up which allowed his offense to find the hole and make the play. The defense saw excellent tackles by the whole defensive squad that played a fantastic game. It is hard to signal out any one player on the defense as they all deserve the credit. The team again played as one and it showed on the field. The Raiders took the game by a final score of 38-8, ending their 2007 regular season with a respectable record of 4 wins and 4 losses. Today's win also earns the Raiders a guaranteed berth in the playoffs. Post season details will be posted on this website, as soon as they are announced.

Terminator Teal Raiders host Fort Garry

Story Image

September 29, 2007
STEINBACH - The Terminator Teal Raiders played host to the Fort Garry Lions Gold team at A. D. Penner Park early this morning. I'm sure the parents and fans were especially appreciating the fantastic mild weather conditions today, even though it was slightly windy. It was definitely a great day for some football! Hopefully the conditions will last through to next weekend, when the Terminators wrap up their "regular season" play.

Lions beat Atom Grey Raiders

September 23, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
STEINBACH - The Eastman Raiders Atom Grey played the 1st place Fort Garry Lions who came on strong. The Raiders defense played hard and stopped the tough Lions offense on many occasions with some great tackles. Although the Raiders played a hard fought game, they just couldn’t put the plays together and ultimately came up short. Final score was Lions 41, Raiders 6. Next week is the Atom Grey Raiders last game of the regular season, when they take on the St Vital Mustangs Black. The Raiders are hoping for a win, which would allow them to finish the season with a 4 and 4 record.

Terminator Grey Raiders square off against Fort Garry

Story Image

September 23, 2007
STEINBACH - The Eastman Terminator Raiders Grey team hosted the Fort Garry Lions White. It was an absolutely beautiful autumn day, perfect for a football game. The visiting Lions had a full bench, with twice as many players than the home-town Raiders. But no matter. The Raiders players just played good old-fashioned "iron-man" football, with each player playing both on offense and on defense. Certainly, a fun game was had by all!

Penalties pile up in Lions-Raiders matchup

Story Image

September 22, 2007
STEINBACH - The game couldn't have started better for the Raiders. The Raiders D forced the potent Fort Gary offense into a two-and-out on their first drive. Shortly after, Kelly Sansregret (#18) would hit Nick Watchorn (#33) for a 32 yard TD pass on the first offensive play of the game for the Raiders and just minutes into the game, the Raiders held a 7-0 lead. The Lions would then put a drive together of their own and drive the field, tying the game at 7-7. The Raiders and Lions defense would be locked in a field position battle for most of the second half. The Raiders would go into half-time trailing 21-7. However the Raiders offense could not get their wheels going until late in the game when things got interesting. Replacing Sansregret (injury), Luc Ducharme (#77) would take the field at QB, and eventually hit Pierre Lafleche (#16) for a 33 yard TD pass. Following a failed 2 point conversion the Raiders lined up for an onside kick which they would recover. The Raiders offense would come back onto the field and similar to week 1, the Raiders looked to be potentially on the verge of a comeback, however the Lions defense would hold the rest of the game as penalties and turnovers would cost the Raiders a 39-13 loss. The Lions and Raiders will meet once more this season in Fort Garry in 3 weeks.

Next weekend the Raiders begin their final stretch of the season, going on the road as they take on the St James Rods on Saturday in a game with huge playoff implacations for both teams, kickoff is 12:30 pm.

PLAYOFF WATCH:
1. St Vital Mustangs - 10 pts
2. Fort Garry Lions - 8 pts
3. North Winnipeg Nomads - 6 pts
4. St James Rods - 6 pts
__________________________
5. EASTMAN RAIDERS - 4 pts

The Raiders will face the Rods and Lions in their final 3 games, both games will have major playoff implications as the Raiders still have an outside shot at finishing as high as 3rd place. Note: the top four teams make the playoffs.

Bantam Raiders back on winning track

Story Image

September 22, 2007
ST VITAL - After dropping games against Fort Garry and Crescentwood, the Eastman Bantam Raiders were eager to get back into the win column. They had a chance to do just that on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to St Vital to take on the Mustangs. It was a tight game, with each defense keeping their opponent's offense in check. Late in the game, with the score tied 8-8, the Raiders finally found the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown. No matter that the convert attempt was unsuccessful, the Raiders notched the win, by a final score of 14-8.

Mustangs end Peewee Raiders hopes for undefeated season

September 22, 2007
ST VITAL - The Peewee Raiders put up a good battle, but couldn't pull off a victory against the stronger St Vital Mustangs Red team. Prior to the game, the two teams had been tied for first place in the Peewee Saturday division, so the Raiders loss now leaves the Mustangs Red all alone at the top of the standings. Final score was 47-20 for the Mustangs.

Atom Teal Raiders lose to St Vital

September 22, 2007
ST VITAL - The Atom Teal Raiders but on a brave game face, but they were only able to post 6 points against the mighty St Vital Mustangs Red team. Final score was Mustangs 60, Raiders 6. Next Saturday, the Teal Raiders return to their home field for their final game of the 2007 regular season. Game time is September 29 at 9:00am verses the North Winnipeg Nomads East.

Game previews: week 7

September 19, 2007
STEINBACH - The Midget Raiders (2-2) are currently enjoying a two game win-streak, and are locked in a three-way tie for 3rd place in the MFLM along with the St James Rods and North Winnipeg Nomads who also have a record of 2 wins and 2 losses. The Raiders will be put to the test this weekend however, as the 2nd place Fort Garry Lions (3-1) generally field an extremely competitive team. Catch the action at A. D. Penner Park, beginning Saturday at 12:30pm in Steinbach.

Our Eastman Bantam Raiders (3-2) have been in a mini-slump, losing their last two games. However, they still hold on to 4th place in the league standings (tied with the Transcona Nationals), and they should have a good chance at getting back on track this weekend when they visit the 9th place St Vital Mustangs (1-4). Game time is Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm in St Vital. The Mustangs have had an uncharacteristicly difficult season, with their sole victory coming against the Portage la Prairie Pitbulls.

The game of the week has to be the Eastman Peewee Raiders (6-0) taking on the St Vital Mustangs Red (6-0). The implications are huge: both teams are undefeated and are tied for 1st place in the Peewee Saturday division standings. The winner of this match-up will take over sole possession of 1st place, and will have an excellent shot at winning the division title. The battle gets underway on Saturday at 12:30pm in St Vital. If you haven't been paying attention to the Eastman Peewee team, now is a great time to jump on the bandwagon. The Raiders have earned shut-out victories in all of their last four games!

The Atom Teal Raiders (2-4) have struggled as of late, but they are definitely in the running for a playoff position. The Teal Raiders are tied for 6th spot in the Atom Saturday division, along with the Eastside Eagles Blue team. (The top 8 teams in the Saturday division will move on to post-season play.) Unfortunately, the Teal Raiders will be facing a very difficult opponent this week, when they visit the 1st place St Vital Mustangs Red (6-0). The Mustangs Red have yet to lose a game this season, but like the story of David verses Goliath, there is always a chance for the underdog. Kick-off is Saturday morning at 10:00am in St Vital.

Also in playoff contention is our Atom Grey Raiders (3-3) who are tied for 5th position in the Atom Sunday division together with the North Winnipeg Nomads West team. (The top 8 teams in the Sunday division will go on to see play-off action.) As fate would have it, the Grey Raiders will also be facing the 1st place team in their division: the Fort Garry Lions (6-0). One advantage for the Grey Raiders is that they will have home-field advantage this weekend, as their game takes place at Steinbach's A. D. Penner Park on Sunday afternoon at 12:30pm.

Both of our Terminator teams will have home-games this weekend as well. The Terminator Teal Raiders will host the St James Rods White team on Saturday morning at 11:00am, while the Terminator Grey Raiders will take on the Fort Garry Lions White squad on Sunday morning at 11:00am. Both games are in Steinbach.

Well, there you have it. Plenty of football action to choose from. And here's an great idea: why not invite a friend to join you in watching a game this weekend? Especially someone who doesn't usually get out to see the Raiders. They might even be surprised at the quality of amateur football in Manitoba. And did you know that game admission is free? (Although you might want to bring a couple of bucks to buy a burger or hotdog from the canteen.) So grab your lawn-chair and bag of sunflower seeds and come on out to watch the Raiders! Note: directions to all of the football fields can be found on the locations page.

Atom Grey Raiders come up short verses the Broncos

September 16, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
CHARLESWOOD - What an incredible game the Atom Grey Raiders played today! They may have lost on the scoreboard but to their coaches (and all the spectators) they were the winners. At half-time today they were only down by one point, but just couldn’t hold it at the end against a very “large” Broncos team. Eric Loeppky made his mark, when he ran the opening kickoff all the way back for an opening touchdown. The offense was dominating with their running and fast maneuvers. Darby Gula and Elijah Farley ran the ball extremely well, MacKenzie Hildenbrand blocked and sneaked the ball and quarterback Vital Renaud found his man and sometimes had to change the play quickly. The defense had some very large running backs to contend with but held the 1st place Broncos to their least points scored in a game. Corey Moghaddam, Justin Ducharme, Justin Marchand, Callie Denis, and Ralph Plett led the defense in tackles today. Let us not forget the special teams who returned the kick to give their team excellent field position. Great returns were made by Eric Loeppky and Vital Renaud. Congrats team on a job well done! Final score was Charleswood Broncos Purple 54, Eastman Raiders Grey 33.

Midget Raiders win second in a row, improve to 2-2

Story Image

September 15, 2007
STEINBACH - The Raiders, coming off a 47-1 victory over the Nationals hosted the Greendell Falcons, coming off a loss last week, both teams were looking to improve to 2-2 going into the midway point of the season. Raiders quarterback Kelly Sansregret (#18) would help move the Raiders down field early in the first, finally capping the drive off with a 13 yard TD pass to Nick Watchorn (#33). However both teams were battling strong winds, which led to a defensive battle in the 2nd quarter. Late in the 2nd Sansregret (#18) would hit Luc Ducharme (#77) with a huge 57 yard passing play, which would eventually setup another pass from Sansregret to Ducharme, a 13 yard TD pass making it a 14-7 game. Due to a safety, the Raiders would take a 16-7 lead going into Half-Time. The Raiders defense would step up in the 3rd quarter keep the Falcons offense off the board. In the 4th quarter Sansregret (#18) would add his third TD of the game, hitting Luc Ducharme (#77) again on a 9 yard pass play making it a 23-7 game. The Raiders would finish the game when Raiders CB Justin Wiebe (#30) would pick off the Falcons on the last play of the game, he would proceed to take it 90 yards back down field for a TD, making the final score 30-7. Turnovers costly for Bantam Raiders

Story Image

September 15, 2007
CRESCENTWOOD - The Raiders Bantam team were on the road today, trying to bounce back from last week's loss. Things started out on the right note with the Raiders taking the early lead when they hit the endzone for the first major of the game. After Crescentwood tied the game with a score of their own, the Raiders got the ball back and were again in position to score, but they fumbled the ball on the Grizzlies 5 yard line. The mistake was costly, as it seemed to change the flow of the game. A few more fumbles and numerous interceptions later, the Raiders just couldn't keep pace with Crescentwood, and the Grizzlies pulled away to a 43-13 victory. Next Saturday, the Bantam Raiders will try to end their 2-game losing streak when they visit the St Vital Mustangs at Maple Grove Park in Winnipeg.

September 15, 2007 - by Jacqueline Letkeman
CRESCENTWOOD - The Peewee Raiders defeated the Crescentwood Grizzlies by a score of 27-0. The Peewees travelled to Winnipeg to face the Crescentwood Grizzlies for their 6th game of the season. The defense did an awesome job again this week by shutting out the Grizzlies for their 4th consecutive shut out. The pressure brought on by the defence kept the Grizzlies score to 0 and also caused the Grizzlies to give up a 2 point safety. During this game the Raiders defense had a total of 6 quarterback sacks. Nathan Hildebrand (#90) came up with 2 sacks on his own but had some help from Brock Letkeman (#22) and Ian O'Conner with one. Three other players contributed to the total quarterback sacks as well, Corey Simard (#15), Keenan Unger (#77) and Ian O'Conner. Nathan Hildebrand (#90) had a fumble recovery and also a blocked pass. Atom Grey Raiders beat Grizzlies Orange

September 9, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
CRESCENTWOOD - The Atom Grey team underwent some changes in positioning during the week and it sure paid off. They came out strong on Sunday and pulled off an outstanding victory, winning 43-13 over the Grizzlies Atom Orange team. The Raiders played well together and made some unbelievable plays. With a new quarterback, a 3 man running team, and strong blocking on the offensive line, they sure made it look easy to put points on the board.  Let's not forget a dominating defensive who made it hard for the Grizzlies to gain any yards, they stopped them in their tracks.  There were a few outstanding runs today by Darby Gula (#20) who ran for more than 300 yards!  Way to go team.

Raiders offense and defense come alive to earn victory

September 8, 2007
TRANSCONA - The Raiders battled hard through their first two games of the season, having the toughest starting scheduling of any team in the league. After dropping their first two games to the North Winnipeg Nomads and the St.Vital Mustangs, the Eastman Raiders hit the road on Saturday, hungry for a win in Transcona, and for the fans who made the trip they would not be disappointed. The Raiders opened the game with a touchdown run from Jesse Martens (#34), and would not look back. Martens alone would account for 4 rushing touchdowns on his way to racking up 196 yards rushing, he would also add a 75 yard kickoff return touchdown as well. Raiders slot back Luc Ducharme (#77) would add 2 touchdown catches, one while being blanketed by two defenders in the end zone, en route to 151 yards receiving on the day. Raiders quarterback Kelly Sansregret (#18) finished the day with 2 touchdown passes and 273 yards passing. Defensively the Raiders had their most dominating game of the season, allowing only a single point on a touchback. Defensively it is hard to pick one standout player as the entire defense stepped up pitching a near shutout, as the Nationals made only one trip into Raiders territory, before being intercepted by Joss Gowland (#32) his second interception in as many games, he would also take it 75 yards back the other way before finally being dragged down just shy of the endzone. The Nationals would try to move the ball throw the air and on the ground, but the Raiders defense completely shut down the Transcona offense. The Raiders are back at home next week, Saturday at 12:30pm as they take on the Greendell Falcons looking to even their record approaching the halfway point of the season.

Bantam Raiders shellacked by Fort Garry

Story Image

September 8, 2007
STEINBACH - Ouch! It was an afternoon that the Eastman Bantam Raiders would probably prefer to forget, as the Fort Garry Lions rolled into Steinbach for their Saturday match-up. The Raiders showed unity and readiness in the Raiders shack before the game, but in the end the Raiders could not hold it together. An early turn-over allowed the Lions to jump to a 14-0 lead only minutes after the opening kick-off. The Raiders played without their head coach, who was required to serve a game suspension for last week's improper player substitution. Our team just couldn't seem to advance the ball against the quick Lion's defense, and so the Raiders were kept off of the scoreboard en route to their first loss of the season. However the Raiders did shine when Tylor Fast #54 sacked the quarterback in the 3rd quarter. Even though the team was disappointed with the loss, there were alot lessons learned before and during the game. Final score was Fort Garry 54, Eastman 0.

Peewee Raiders earn fifth victory of the season

September 8, 2007 - by Jacqueline Letkeman
STEINBACH - The Peewees hosted the LaSalle Lightning for the fifth game of the season. Going into the game 4-0, the Raiders were anxious to make it 5-0. The offense struggled with fumbles and incomplete throws for the first half of the game, but once again the defense played a near perfect game by keeping the Lightning off the score board, and even forcing them to give up a 2 point safety in their endzone. In the second half, the offense started connecting and putting more points on the board while the defense continued to play a strong solid game to the end. Total rushing yards for this game was 252 yards with Josh Henry making over half of those yards. AJ Lerma, Blair Holmes, and Cole Machej contributing to the rest of the yards. The points for this game were scored by Blair Holmes with 1 TD, Josh Henry running in 2 TD's, Cole Machej with 1 TD, AJ Lerma with 1 TD and Darius Wilson with a receiving TD, Blair Holmes ran in a convert for a single point and Sebastien Lachance made 2 convert kicks for a total of 4 pts. Our top defensive tacklers for the game were Brock Letkeman with 11 tackles, Matt Brown with 9 tackles, Ian O'Connor with 8 tackles and Nathan Hildebrand with 6 tackles. Barry Nykorak also had a very strong game today and came up with a great Quaterback Sack, Foster Martens had a fumble recovery and Cody Erickson had a knocked down pass.  The Raiders pulled off another win to put them at 5-0 and next week are off to the Crescentwood Grizzlies for an 11:30am game.

Atom Teal Raiders come up short in high-scoring game

Story Image

September 8, 2007
STEINBACH - Football fans witnessed an incredible offensive shoot-out this morning at A. D. Penner Park, as the visiting La Salle Lightning and the home-town Atom Teal Raiders combined for a total of 150 points! (Yes you read that correctly: 150 points.) Unfortunately our team came up short with the final score: La Salle 86, Eastman 64.

La Salle Lightning visit Terminator Teal Raiders

Story Image

September 8, 2007
STEINBACH - This morning marked the first-ever Terminator (age 7-8) match-up between La Salle and Eastman, as the Terminator Teal Raiders hosted the visiting Lightning. The young players are very energetic, eager to learn as much as they can about the basics of football. Of course, since the Terminator games are all about having fun, there is no official score to report.

Game previews: week 5

September 6, 2007
STEINBACH - Going into the fifth week of the football season, the Atom Teal Raiders (2-2) are on a roll and will be trying for their third win in a row. They welcome the La Salle Lightning Atom team (0-4) to A. D. Penner Park in Steinbach on Saturday morning at 10:00am. The Lightning Atom team are looking for their first win which could make them a dangerous opponent for the Raiders.

The Midget Raiders (0-2) are still looking for their first win of the season, and this could be their best chance so far as they travel to Transcona to face the Nationals (0-3) who have yet to post a victory themselves. Game time is Saturday at 12:30pm.

The Peewee Raiders (4-0) will host the La Salle Lightning (0-4) on Saturday at 12:30pm. The Lightning will be hungry to earn their first victory, so hopefully the Raiders won't take them too lightly. This is only the second time that our Peewee team has ever hosted the Lightning, so be sure to provide a warm welcome to their fans and parents who take the trip out to Steinbach. A win for the Raiders would almost certainly guarantee a playoff spot for the team.

The game of the week could be on Saturday at 3:00pm when the Bantam Raiders (3-0) host the Fort Garry Lions (3-0). Both teams are undefeated in the current season, so it should be a competitive football game. The Lions defense has only allowed a total of 7 points all year, so the Raiders offense may have their work cut out for them but it will be a good opportunity for them to put their abilities to the test.

On Sunday, our Atom Grey Raiders (2-2) are looking to get back on track after dropping their past two games. They will be in Crescentwood to face the Grizzlies Orange team (1-3) at 11:00am.

Rounding up the weekend, the Terminator Teal Raiders will play against the La Salle Lightning Red team on Saturday morning at 9:00am in Steinbach, just prior to the Atom game. The Terminator Grey Raiders will visit the Eastside Eagles White team on Sunday at 9:00am.

STENIBACH - The Raiders started the game with Joss Gowland (#32) making an interception on the first play of the game, later on in the first Matt Wollman (#29) would come away with an interception as well. The first quarter was dominated mostly by defense from both teams. However in the second the league's leading rushing offense came alive, and the Raiders trailed 42-0 at the half. In the second half the Raiders defense would tighten up again, however the Raiders offense would struggle against the Mustangs defense. The Raiders would end the game with a TD toss from Luc Ducharme (#77) to Nick Watchorn (#33).

The Raiders now enter a shortened week of practice before heading out on their first road game of the season, when they take on the Transcona Nationals, Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Grizzlies White down Atom Grey Raiders

September 2, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
CRESCENTWOOD - The Atom Grey team fought a hard fight today but came up short again this week. The offense tried hard but just couldn’t get the ball past a strong Grizzly defense. The defense played a strong game and stopped the Grizzlies close to the goal line. Final score was Crescentwood 31, Raiders 0.

Bantam Raiders top Eastside Eagles

Story Image

September 1, 2007
STEINBACH - In a game marked by some undisciplined play and more than a few questionable penalties, the Bantam Raiders managed to come out ahead of the Eastside Eagles by a score of 46-30. Early in the game there was some confusion on the sidelines as the Raiders were assessed a 25-yard bench penalty on a technicality, when they failed to clearly inform the scorekeeper of a player substitution. When the matter resurfaced a minute later, the scorekeeper informed the Raiders that, by rule, he was forced to eject their head coach from the game and assess them with another 25-yard penalty. When the game was finally allowed to resume, the Raiders managed to put plenty of points onto the scoreboard, although the Eagles rallied back with a few excellent long-yardage plays of their own. The victory marks the third straight for the Bantam Raiders who remain undefeated with a record of 3-0. Next Saturday, the Raiders will face the Fort Garry Lions, who are also 3-0 on the season. Should be a great match-up, so don't miss it!

Peewee Raiders second straight shut-out

Story Image

September 1, 2007 - by Jacqueline Letkeman
STEINBACH - The peewees hosted the Eastside Eagles for their fourth game of the season. Playing on this hot and humid day did not effect their enthusiasim to try and come up with another win. The offense seemed to struggle a little bit today, fumbling the ball 3 times and losing the ball with an interception by the Eagles. The touchdowns for this game were run in by Josh (#81), Haden (#8), Blair (#32) with one each, and AJ (#73) running in two. Conversions were made by Haden (#8) and Alex (#2), and Sebastien (#30) kicking one in for two points. The total rushing yards in this game were 262 yards and passing yards were 50 yards. Our defense did their job out there by not allowing the Eagles to score any points and keeping their first downs to a bare minimum. The top four tacklers for this game were Matt (#80) involved in 14 tackles, Brock (#22) involved in 11 tackles, Nathan (#90) involved in 10 tackles and Ian (#99) involved in 8 tackles. Keenan (#77) played hard and came out with two quaterback sacks with Matt (#80) helping out on one of them. Raiders shutdown the Eagles, by a score of 34-0. This gives them four straight wins. Their next game is on Saturday, September 8 verses the LaSalle Lightning. Hope to see you there.

Atom Teal Raiders shut-out Eagles

September 1, 2007 - by Diana Clibbery
STEINBACH - The Atom Teal earned their first shutout of the season when they went up against the Eastside Eagles this morning. From they opening kickoff, with a great tackle by Daniel Mutate (#73), the Raiders were in complete control of this game. Defense, defense, defense - the ground shakes when our boys walk the field. But the star of the game would have to be Tristan Steven (#24), running for all touchdowns. With the help of some great blocking by Justin Krause (#60) we had no trouble coming up the "W" today. Great game boys! The Atom Teals next game is Saturday, September 8 against the LaSalle Lightning at 10am.

Atom Grey Raiders verses St Vital Mustangs White

August 26, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
STEINBACH - The Atom Grey Raiders played a solid game today but just couldn’t get the breaks they needed to win. They faced a very strong defense with the Mustangs and just couldn’t get the ball past them. They played with heart and put their best foot forward and will use this game to better prepare them for the season ahead.

Bantam Raiders blank Pitbulls

Story Image

August 25, 2007
STEINBACH - Although their performance was slightly tarnished by frequent penalties, the Bantam Raiders defense came to play, as they shut-out the visiting Portage Pitbulls. The Raiders have only given up a single point during their two games this season. Not to be out-done, the Raiders offense peppered the endzone with numerous touchdowns thoughout the afternoon contest, including a 4th quarter major by Jordan Wollman (quite a change of pace from his usual assignment as an offensive lineman.) An impressive performance all around. The Bantam Raiders next match-up takes place on September 1st, when they host the Eastside Eagles at A. D. Penner Park in Steinbach.

Peewee Raiders shut-out Portage

Story Image

August 25, 2007 - by Jacqueline Letkeman
STEINBACH - Today the Peewee Raiders hosted the Portage la Prairie Pitbulls. The Raiders started the game off with the first touchdown and kept the touchdowns coming with a score of 48-0. The offense once again played a very strong game with touchdowns spread out quite evenly. Josh Henry (#81) with two, Haden Hiebert (#8) with two, Blair Holmes (#32) with two, and Darius Wilson (#50) with one. The single points were run in by AJ Lerma (#73) and Josh Henry (#81). Sebastien Lachance (#30) kicked both two-point converts. Our total rushing yards this game was 290 yards and passing yards totaled 97 yards. This game our defence showed up for the whole game and did an amazing job at shutting the other team down. Our top four tacklers this game were Brock Letkeman (#22) with 9 tackles, Nathan Hildebrand (#90) with 7 tackles, Gregory Karlenzig (#54) with 4 tackles and Paul Salter (#60) with 3 tackles. It was great to see a win like this for all the fans that showed support for the Peewee team. Another great job!

Atom Teal Raiders pick up a big win on Raider family days

August 25, 2007 - by Diana Clibbery
STEINBACH - What a great day for football! The Atom Teal Raiders started off the game with an amazing 60 yard touchdown by Darwin Penner (#10) with Mac Ginter-Boyce (#12) picking up the convert. The Pitbulls came right back with a touchdown of their own, but were denied on their convert attempt. From there, the score just kept going up, up, up for the Eastman Raiders. Both Darwin Penner and Mac Ginter-Boyce got a lot of excersize throughout the game, running many yards including an amazing 85 yard touchdown by Mac. Let's not forget the defense, keeping the Pitbulls at bay. Jared Riley (#81), Ethan Stenberg (#81), and Julian Clibbery (#77) all played excellent. Great job boys! A big win for the Raiders, 52-12. The next game will be at home on September 1st, against the Eastside Eagles at 10:00am.

Game previews: Raiders family days

August 23, 2007
STEINBACH - The Raiders family days action kicks-off at 10:00am on Saturday morning, August 25, when our Atom Teal Raiders (0-2) will shoot for their first win of the season as they host the win-less Portage la Prairie Atom Pitbulls (0-2).

At 12:30pm, the Peewee Raiders (2-0) will try for their third-straight victory, when they square off against the Peewee Pitbulls (1-1). The Raiders offense has been incredible this season, racking up an average of over 53 points per game!

Our Bantam Raiders (1-0) round up the day's action at 3:00pm, as they meet the Bantam Pitbulls (0-2). The Bantam Raiders are coming off of a "bye" week, so they'll have had plenty of time to prepare for their second opponent of the season. Pay close attention to the Raiders defense. They only gave up a single point in their season-opener against the St James Rods, so it will be interesting to find out if they can repeat that success this weekend.

On Sunday, August 26, the first-place Atom Grey Raiders (2-0) will put their record on the line against the St Vital Mustangs White (1-1). The game is scheduled for a 12:30pm start. The Atom Grey Raiders have also displayed a steller defense this season, giving up only 8 points over two games. St Vital usually fields a strong team though, so the Raiders may have their work cut out for them.

Of course our Terminator teams are also in action this weekend. Unfortunately, the Terminator Teal Raiders will miss out on the Raiders family day festivities since they are scheduled for a road game against the North Winnipeg Nomads West team at 10:00am on Saturday morning. But then on Sunday morning, the Terminator Grey Raiders will be in Steinbach to host the Transcona Nationals Grey team at A. D. Penner Park at 11:30am, which is just ahead of the Atom game. Note: the Midget Raiders have the week off, with a "bye".

Raiders website anniversary

August 22, 2007

Atom Grey Raiders defeat Transcona

Story Image

August 19, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
STEINBACH - It was difficult to only pick one highlight from this game because right from the very first play, the whole Atom Grey Raiders team acted as a single unit and put their best foot forward. The offense, defense, and specialty teams put their hearts and souls into the game and united together for an amazing game. Whether it was the defense not allowing any points (and very few first downs), the specialty teams kicking and coming up with the ball, or the offense with their touchdowns drives, they all played together and were seen congratulating each other on and off the field. The whole team “unit” deserves honorable mentions as they blanked the visiting Transcona Nationals by a score of 45-0.

Terminator Grey Raiders host the Broncos

Story Image

August 19, 2007
STEINBACH - The Charleswood Broncos were in Steinbach on Sunday, taking on the Raiders Terminator Grey team. There was plenty of scoring by both teams, as they each posted numerous touchdowns. The goal of the Terminator program is for the players (age 7-8) to learn the game of football, and have a lot of fun playing together as a team. The game score isn't officially tracked, and the coaches are out on the field along with the players, providing assistance and direction to their teams. Great job, players (and coaches), it looked like everyone was having a blast out there today!

Midget Raiders lose hard fought season opener

Story Image

August 18, 2007
STEINBACH - The Nomads and Raiders both scored on their opening drives of their MFLM season-opening game on Saturday, with the Raiders first score of the season coming when rookie quarterback Kelly Sansregret (#18) hit Raiders slot back Luc Ducharme (#77) in the end zone for a touchdown. However in the second quarter penalties and turnovers led to the Nomads building a 28-7 lead going into the half. The Raiders would answer back on the opening drive of the second half, with Kelly Sansregret leading the Raiders offense down field in only 3 plays, ending the drive with another touchdown pass to rookie wideout Gil St Marie (#19). The offense continued to move the ball well downfield, however prematurely ending two drives with turnovers inside the 30 yard line. The Raiders defense stiffened in the second half, but turnovers, penalties and injuries would hamper the comeback attempt late in the game. The Raiders have next weekend off, with a "bye", but invite all Raiders fans to come out to A. D. Penner Park for their Labour Day tilt with the St Vital Mustangs. That game is set for Monday, September 3rd with a 3:00 pm kickoff.

Offensive shoot-out victory for Peewee Raiders

August 18, 2007 - by Jacqueline Letkeman
CHARLESWOOD - It was a beautiful day for a football game, with the sun shining and no wind. The Peewee Raiders headed out to Charleswood for their second game of the season. The first three quarters were an offensive fight between the two teams, with the defense unable to stop the scoring. The offense played a solid game, although they did have a couple of fumbles during the third quarter. Corey Simard (#15) is a first-year player on the defense, but you would never know it by the way he used his determination and speed to do a great job making amazing tackles! During the fourth quarter the defense finally came to life and did not allow any further scoring to take place. The final score was 59-48 for the Raiders. Josh Henry (#81) had another incredible game with 6 touchdowns and a conversion. AJ Lerma (#73) contributed a touchdown and a conversion, quarterback Cole Machej (#4) scored a touchdown, Haden Hiebert (#8) had a touchdown run and 2 conversions. Trever Toews (#24) also ran in one of the conversions. The peewees are now 2-0. This game certainly proved the need for a team effort by both the offense and defense, in order to win a game. Great job!! Next week the team will be play host to the Portage la Prairie Pitbulls, a game you won't want to miss!

Atom Teal Raiders verses Charleswood

August 18, 2007 - by Diana Clibbery
CHARLESWOOD - The Broncos took an early lead scoring three touchdowns in the first half making the score 26-0. In the second half Mac Ginter-Boyce (#12) ran for a 63 yard touchdown and Darwin Penner (#10) ran for a 40 yard touchdown. But even with a great effort on the defensive line by both Ethan Stenberg (#54) and Julian Clibbery (#77), the Broncos came out with the win 40-13. The next Atom game will be on Saturday August 25th against The Portage la Prairie Pitbulls. Hope to see everyone there for Raiders Family Days.

Earned victory for Atom Grey Raiders

August 12, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
ST JAMES - The Atom Grey Raiders began their season on a winning note, as they beat the home-team Rods by a score of 13-8. The Raiders came into the game with only 15 active players and needed to keep switching the offensive and defensive players around. The defense played an awesome game, especially considering the fact that many of the regular defensive players were missing. During the 4th quarter the Rods were ahead 8-7 when Darby Gula (#20) broke the ball through a sea of black for a 50+ yard winning touchdown! At this point, the Raider defense held firm, not allowing any further points by the Rods. They even stopped the final Rods drive at the 5 yard line on the last play of the game. The whole team played amazing game and they all deserve a pat on the back. Next Sunday, the Atom Grey Raiders will be at home in Steinbach, taking on the Transcona Nationals.

Strong defense for Bantam Raiders

Story Image

August 11, 2007
ST JAMES - Early in the game, the Bantam Raiders gave up a single point to the St James Rods when the Raiders failed to advance a punt return out of their own end zone. As both teams battled strong wind conditions, it was a defensive struggle and throughout the first half the score remained 1-0 for the Rods. In the second half, the Raiders offense came alive and managed to score 25 unanswered points to win the game by a final score of 25-1. Next week will be a "bye-week" for the Bantam Raiders. Their next game will take place on August 25 as they will play host to the Portage la Prairie Pitbulls.

ST JAMES - The Peewee Raiders met the St James Rods in their first game of the 2007 football season. The Raiders had a strong outing, winning by a score of 45-24. Newcomer Joshua Henry (#81) had an outstanding game, using his incredible speed to score 3 touchdowns. AJ (#73), Haden (#8), Alex (#2), and Cole (#4) also scored majors for the Raiders. Conversions were run in by Haden (#8), Blair (#32) and Josh (#81). In the third quarter, Keegan (#76) made a nice recovery to get the ball back after our kickoff. The Raiders defense worked very hard, keeping the Rods score as low as possible. Great job Peewees! Next week, the Raiders will travel to Charleswood to take on the Broncos.
