Atom Grey Raiders verses St Vital Mustangs White

August 26, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
STEINBACH - The Atom Grey Raiders played a solid game today but just couldn’t get the breaks they needed to win. They faced a very strong defense with the Mustangs and just couldn’t get the ball past them. They played with heart and put their best foot forward and will use this game to better prepare them for the season ahead.

Bantam Raiders blank Pitbulls

August 25, 2007
STEINBACH - Although their performance was slightly tarnished by frequent penalties, the Bantam Raiders defense came to play, as they shut-out the visiting Portage Pitbulls. The Raiders have only given up a single point during their two games this season. Not to be out-done, the Raiders offense peppered the endzone with numerous touchdowns thoughout the afternoon contest, including a 4th quarter major by Jordan Wollman (quite a change of pace from his usual assignment as an offensive lineman.) An impressive performance all around. The Bantam Raiders next match-up takes place on September 1st, when they host the Eastside Eagles at A. D. Penner Park in Steinbach.

STEINBACH - Today the Peewee Raiders hosted the Portage la Prairie Pitbulls. The Raiders started the game off with the first touchdown and kept the touchdowns coming with a score of 48-0. The offense once again played a very strong game with touchdowns spread out quite evenly. Josh Henry (#81) with two, Haden Hiebert (#8) with two, Blair Holmes (#32) with two, and Darius Wilson (#50) with one. The single points were run in by AJ Lerma (#73) and Josh Henry (#81). Sebastien Lachance (#30) kicked both two-point converts. Our total rushing yards this game was 290 yards and passing yards totaled 97 yards. This game our defence showed up for the whole game and did an amazing job at shutting the other team down. Our top four tacklers this game were Brock Letkeman (#22) with 9 tackles, Nathan Hildebrand (#90) with 7 tackles, Gregory Karlenzig (#54) with 4 tackles and Paul Salter (#60) with 3 tackles. It was great to see a win like this for all the fans that showed support for the Peewee team. Another great job!

Atom Teal Raiders pick up a big win on Raider family days

August 25, 2007 - by Diana Clibbery
STEINBACH - What a great day for football! The Atom Teal Raiders started off the game with an amazing 60 yard touchdown by Darwin Penner (#10) with Mac Ginter-Boyce (#12) picking up the convert. The Pitbulls came right back with a touchdown of their own, but were denied on their convert attempt. From there, the score just kept going up, up, up for the Eastman Raiders. Both Darwin Penner and Mac Ginter-Boyce got a lot of excersize throughout the game, running many yards including an amazing 85 yard touchdown by Mac. Let's not forget the defense, keeping the Pitbulls at bay. Jared Riley (#81), Ethan Stenberg (#81), and Julian Clibbery (#77) all played excellent. Great job boys! A big win for the Raiders, 52-12. The next game will be at home on September 1st, against the Eastside Eagles at 10:00am.

Game previews: Raiders family days

August 23, 2007
STEINBACH - The Raiders family days action kicks-off at 10:00am on Saturday morning, August 25, when our Atom Teal Raiders (0-2) will shoot for their first win of the season as they host the win-less Portage la Prairie Atom Pitbulls (0-2).

At 12:30pm, the Peewee Raiders (2-0) will try for their third-straight victory, when they square off against the Peewee Pitbulls (1-1). The Raiders offense has been incredible this season, racking up an average of over 53 points per game!

Our Bantam Raiders (1-0) round up the day's action at 3:00pm, as they meet the Bantam Pitbulls (0-2). The Bantam Raiders are coming off of a "bye" week, so they'll have had plenty of time to prepare for their second opponent of the season. Pay close attention to the Raiders defense. They only gave up a single point in their season-opener against the St James Rods, so it will be interesting to find out if they can repeat that success this weekend.

On Sunday, August 26, the first-place Atom Grey Raiders (2-0) will put their record on the line against the St Vital Mustangs White (1-1). The game is scheduled for a 12:30pm start. The Atom Grey Raiders have also displayed a steller defense this season, giving up only 8 points over two games. St Vital usually fields a strong team though, so the Raiders may have their work cut out for them.

Of course our Terminator teams are also in action this weekend. Unfortunately, the Terminator Teal Raiders will miss out on the Raiders family day festivities since they are scheduled for a road game against the North Winnipeg Nomads West team at 10:00am on Saturday morning. But then on Sunday morning, the Terminator Grey Raiders will be in Steinbach to host the Transcona Nationals Grey team at A. D. Penner Park at 11:30am, which is just ahead of the Atom game. Note: the Midget Raiders have the week off, with a "bye".

Atom Grey Raiders defeat Transcona

Story Image

August 19, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
STEINBACH - It was difficult to only pick one highlight from this game because right from the very first play, the whole Atom Grey Raiders team acted as a single unit and put their best foot forward. The offense, defense, and specialty teams put their hearts and souls into the game and united together for an amazing game. Whether it was the defense not allowing any points (and very few first downs), the specialty teams kicking and coming up with the ball, or the offense with their touchdowns drives, they all played together and were seen congratulating each other on and off the field. The whole team “unit” deserves honorable mentions as they blanked the visiting Transcona Nationals by a score of 45-0.

Terminator Grey Raiders host the Broncos

Story Image

August 19, 2007
STEINBACH - The Charleswood Broncos were in Steinbach on Sunday, taking on the Raiders Terminator Grey team. There was plenty of scoring by both teams, as they each posted numerous touchdowns. The goal of the Terminator program is for the players (age 7-8) to learn the game of football, and have a lot of fun playing together as a team. The game score isn't officially tracked, and the coaches are out on the field along with the players, providing assistance and direction to their teams. Great job, players (and coaches), it looked like everyone was having a blast out there today!

Midget Raiders lose hard fought season opener

Story Image

August 18, 2007
STEINBACH - The Nomads and Raiders both scored on their opening drives of their MFLM season-opening game on Saturday, with the Raiders first score of the season coming when rookie quarterback Kelly Sansregret (#18) hit Raiders slot back Luc Ducharme (#77) in the end zone for a touchdown. However in the second quarter penalties and turnovers led to the Nomads building a 28-7 lead going into the half. The Raiders would answer back on the opening drive of the second half, with Kelly Sansregret leading the Raiders offense down field in only 3 plays, ending the drive with another touchdown pass to rookie wideout Gil St Marie (#19). The offense continued to move the ball well downfield, however prematurely ending two drives with turnovers inside the 30 yard line. The Raiders defense stiffened in the second half, but turnovers, penalties and injuries would hamper the comeback attempt late in the game. The Raiders have next weekend off, with a "bye", but invite all Raiders fans to come out to A. D. Penner Park for their Labour Day tilt with the St Vital Mustangs. That game is set for Monday, September 3rd with a 3:00 pm kickoff.

Offensive shoot-out victory for Peewee Raiders

August 18, 2007 - by Jacqueline Letkeman
CHARLESWOOD - It was a beautiful day for a football game, with the sun shining and no wind. The Peewee Raiders headed out to Charleswood for their second game of the season. The first three quarters were an offensive fight between the two teams, with the defense unable to stop the scoring. The offense played a solid game, although they did have a couple of fumbles during the third quarter. Corey Simard (#15) is a first-year player on the defense, but you would never know it by the way he used his determination and speed to do a great job making amazing tackles! During the fourth quarter the defense finally came to life and did not allow any further scoring to take place. The final score was 59-48 for the Raiders. Josh Henry (#81) had another incredible game with 6 touchdowns and a conversion. AJ Lerma (#73) contributed a touchdown and a conversion, quarterback Cole Machej (#4) scored a touchdown, Haden Hiebert (#8) had a touchdown run and 2 conversions. Trever Toews (#24) also ran in one of the conversions. The peewees are now 2-0. This game certainly proved the need for a team effort by both the offense and defense, in order to win a game. Great job!! Next week the team will be play host to the Portage la Prairie Pitbulls, a game you won't want to miss!

Atom Teal Raiders verses Charleswood

August 18, 2007 - by Diana Clibbery
CHARLESWOOD - The Broncos took an early lead scoring three touchdowns in the first half making the score 26-0. In the second half Mac Ginter-Boyce (#12) ran for a 63 yard touchdown and Darwin Penner (#10) ran for a 40 yard touchdown. But even with a great effort on the defensive line by both Ethan Stenberg (#54) and Julian Clibbery (#77), the Broncos came out with the win 40-13. The next Atom game will be on Saturday August 25th against The Portage la Prairie Pitbulls. Hope to see everyone there for Raiders Family Days.

Earned victory for Atom Grey Raiders

August 12, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
ST JAMES - The Atom Grey Raiders began their season on a winning note, as they beat the home-team Rods by a score of 13-8. The Raiders came into the game with only 15 active players and needed to keep switching the offensive and defensive players around. The defense played an awesome game, especially considering the fact that many of the regular defensive players were missing. During the 4th quarter the Rods were ahead 8-7 when Darby Gula (#20) broke the ball through a sea of black for a 50+ yard winning touchdown! At this point, the Raider defense held firm, not allowing any further points by the Rods. They even stopped the final Rods drive at the 5 yard line on the last play of the game. The whole team played amazing game and they all deserve a pat on the back. Next Sunday, the Atom Grey Raiders will be at home in Steinbach, taking on the Transcona Nationals.

Strong defense for Bantam Raiders

Story Image

August 11, 2007
ST JAMES - Early in the game, the Bantam Raiders gave up a single point to the St James Rods when the Raiders failed to advance a punt return out of their own end zone. As both teams battled strong wind conditions, it was a defensive struggle and throughout the first half the score remained 1-0 for the Rods. In the second half, the Raiders offense came alive and managed to score 25 unanswered points to win the game by a final score of 25-1. Next week will be a "bye-week" for the Bantam Raiders. Their next game will take place on August 25 as they will play host to the Portage la Prairie Pitbulls.

ST JAMES - The Peewee Raiders met the St James Rods in their first game of the 2007 football season. The Raiders had a strong outing, winning by a score of 45-24. Newcomer Joshua Henry (#81) had an outstanding game, using his incredible speed to score 3 touchdowns. AJ (#73), Haden (#8), Alex (#2), and Cole (#4) also scored majors for the Raiders. Conversions were run in by Haden (#8), Blair (#32) and Josh (#81). In the third quarter, Keegan (#76) made a nice recovery to get the ball back after our kickoff. The Raiders defense worked very hard, keeping the Rods score as low as possible. Great job Peewees! Next week, the Raiders will travel to Charleswood to take on the Broncos.
