Midget Raiders come up short against Rods

Story Image

September 29, 2007
ST JAMES - Both teams battled a strong winds would play a factor in the game and the defensive units of both teams would be the story of the first half, as only 4 points would be scored, giving the Rods a 4-0 lead at half-time. However for the second game in a row, undisciplined penalties would cost the Raiders at several key points, the Rods would also add a couple big plays in the second half to finish with a 25-0 victory. The Raiders offense will be looking to bounce back this long weekend as they travel out to Transcona for the second time this season on Thanksgiving Monday. The Raiders won the previous contest 47-1. Kickoff is Monday at 3:00 pm.

Nomads down Bantam Raiders

Story Image

September 29, 2007
STEINBACH - The North Winnipeg Nomads were in Steinbach to play our Eastman Bantam Raiders. The Nomads had jumped ahead on the scoreboard, but less than a minute before half-time there was a very scary occurance on the field. Brandon Watchorn (#25) of the Raiders suffered an awkward hit as he was fielding the ball after a Nomads kick-off. He lay motionless on the field, and the trainers attended to him until an ambulance was dispatched to the scene. (At the hospital, Watchorn was later diagnosed with a concussion.) When the play resumed, the Raiders were able to score a few touchdowns, but the Nomads matched their pace all the way, and stayed ahead on the scoreboard for the duration of the contest. Final score was Nomads 41, Raiders 26. The Bantam Raiders close out their regular season next Saturday with a visit to Charleswood to take on the Broncos.

Atom Grey Raiders headed towards post-season play

September 29, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
STEINBACH - What a game today! The Atom Grey Raiders played a rare Saturday afternoon match-up against the St Vital Mustangs Black. (Note: the Atom Grey Raiders usually play their games on Sundays, but today was an exception as it marks the end of the regular season.) The whole team played an absolutely fabulous game. There were a couple of changes on offense and it seemed to be the way to go. The offense gained a lot of rushing yardage with some great running plays that led the team to a victory. But let's not forget a dominating defense that held the Mustangs to only one touchdown. Stand-out offensive runs were held by Darby Gula and Justin Ducharme with great rushing by Callie Denis. The offense was lead by strong QB, Vital Renaud who would change the plays after seeing the way the Mustang defense would line up which allowed his offense to find the hole and make the play. The defense saw excellent tackles by the whole defensive squad that played a fantastic game. It is hard to signal out any one player on the defense as they all deserve the credit. The team again played as one and it showed on the field. The Raiders took the game by a final score of 38-8, ending their 2007 regular season with a respectable record of 4 wins and 4 losses. Today's win also earns the Raiders a guaranteed berth in the playoffs. Post season details will be posted on this website, as soon as they are announced.

Terminator Teal Raiders host Fort Garry

Story Image

September 29, 2007
STEINBACH - The Terminator Teal Raiders played host to the Fort Garry Lions Gold team at A. D. Penner Park early this morning. I'm sure the parents and fans were especially appreciating the fantastic mild weather conditions today, even though it was slightly windy. It was definitely a great day for some football! Hopefully the conditions will last through to next weekend, when the Terminators wrap up their "regular season" play.

Lions beat Atom Grey Raiders

September 23, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
STEINBACH - The Eastman Raiders Atom Grey played the 1st place Fort Garry Lions who came on strong. The Raiders defense played hard and stopped the tough Lions offense on many occasions with some great tackles. Although the Raiders played a hard fought game, they just couldn’t put the plays together and ultimately came up short. Final score was Lions 41, Raiders 6. Next week is the Atom Grey Raiders last game of the regular season, when they take on the St Vital Mustangs Black. The Raiders are hoping for a win, which would allow them to finish the season with a 4 and 4 record.

Terminator Grey Raiders square off against Fort Garry

Story Image

September 23, 2007
STEINBACH - The Eastman Terminator Raiders Grey team hosted the Fort Garry Lions White. It was an absolutely beautiful autumn day, perfect for a football game. The visiting Lions had a full bench, with twice as many players than the home-town Raiders. But no matter. The Raiders players just played good old-fashioned "iron-man" football, with each player playing both on offense and on defense. Certainly, a fun game was had by all!

Penalties pile up in Lions-Raiders matchup

Story Image

September 22, 2007
STEINBACH - The game couldn't have started better for the Raiders. The Raiders D forced the potent Fort Gary offense into a two-and-out on their first drive. Shortly after, Kelly Sansregret (#18) would hit Nick Watchorn (#33) for a 32 yard TD pass on the first offensive play of the game for the Raiders and just minutes into the game, the Raiders held a 7-0 lead. The Lions would then put a drive together of their own and drive the field, tying the game at 7-7. The Raiders and Lions defense would be locked in a field position battle for most of the second half. The Raiders would go into half-time trailing 21-7. However the Raiders offense could not get their wheels going until late in the game when things got interesting. Replacing Sansregret (injury), Luc Ducharme (#77) would take the field at QB, and eventually hit Pierre Lafleche (#16) for a 33 yard TD pass. Following a failed 2 point conversion the Raiders lined up for an onside kick which they would recover. The Raiders offense would come back onto the field and similar to week 1, the Raiders looked to be potentially on the verge of a comeback, however the Lions defense would hold the rest of the game as penalties and turnovers would cost the Raiders a 39-13 loss. The Lions and Raiders will meet once more this season in Fort Garry in 3 weeks.

Next weekend the Raiders begin their final stretch of the season, going on the road as they take on the St James Rods on Saturday in a game with huge playoff implacations for both teams, kickoff is 12:30 pm.

PLAYOFF WATCH:
1. St Vital Mustangs - 10 pts
2. Fort Garry Lions - 8 pts
3. North Winnipeg Nomads - 6 pts
4. St James Rods - 6 pts
__________________________
5. EASTMAN RAIDERS - 4 pts

The Raiders will face the Rods and Lions in their final 3 games, both games will have major playoff implications as the Raiders still have an outside shot at finishing as high as 3rd place. Note: the top four teams make the playoffs.

Bantam Raiders back on winning track

Story Image

September 22, 2007
ST VITAL - After dropping games against Fort Garry and Crescentwood, the Eastman Bantam Raiders were eager to get back into the win column. They had a chance to do just that on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to St Vital to take on the Mustangs. It was a tight game, with each defense keeping their opponent's offense in check. Late in the game, with the score tied 8-8, the Raiders finally found the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown. No matter that the convert attempt was unsuccessful, the Raiders notched the win, by a final score of 14-8.

Mustangs end Peewee Raiders hopes for undefeated season

September 22, 2007
ST VITAL - The Peewee Raiders put up a good battle, but couldn't pull off a victory against the stronger St Vital Mustangs Red team. Prior to the game, the two teams had been tied for first place in the Peewee Saturday division, so the Raiders loss now leaves the Mustangs Red all alone at the top of the standings. Final score was 47-20 for the Mustangs.

Atom Teal Raiders lose to St Vital

September 22, 2007
ST VITAL - The Atom Teal Raiders but on a brave game face, but they were only able to post 6 points against the mighty St Vital Mustangs Red team. Final score was Mustangs 60, Raiders 6. Next Saturday, the Teal Raiders return to their home field for their final game of the 2007 regular season. Game time is September 29 at 9:00am verses the North Winnipeg Nomads East.

Game previews: week 7

September 19, 2007
STEINBACH - The Midget Raiders (2-2) are currently enjoying a two game win-streak, and are locked in a three-way tie for 3rd place in the MFLM along with the St James Rods and North Winnipeg Nomads who also have a record of 2 wins and 2 losses. The Raiders will be put to the test this weekend however, as the 2nd place Fort Garry Lions (3-1) generally field an extremely competitive team. Catch the action at A. D. Penner Park, beginning Saturday at 12:30pm in Steinbach.

Our Eastman Bantam Raiders (3-2) have been in a mini-slump, losing their last two games. However, they still hold on to 4th place in the league standings (tied with the Transcona Nationals), and they should have a good chance at getting back on track this weekend when they visit the 9th place St Vital Mustangs (1-4). Game time is Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm in St Vital. The Mustangs have had an uncharacteristicly difficult season, with their sole victory coming against the Portage la Prairie Pitbulls.

The game of the week has to be the Eastman Peewee Raiders (6-0) taking on the St Vital Mustangs Red (6-0). The implications are huge: both teams are undefeated and are tied for 1st place in the Peewee Saturday division standings. The winner of this match-up will take over sole possession of 1st place, and will have an excellent shot at winning the division title. The battle gets underway on Saturday at 12:30pm in St Vital. If you haven't been paying attention to the Eastman Peewee team, now is a great time to jump on the bandwagon. The Raiders have earned shut-out victories in all of their last four games!

The Atom Teal Raiders (2-4) have struggled as of late, but they are definitely in the running for a playoff position. The Teal Raiders are tied for 6th spot in the Atom Saturday division, along with the Eastside Eagles Blue team. (The top 8 teams in the Saturday division will move on to post-season play.) Unfortunately, the Teal Raiders will be facing a very difficult opponent this week, when they visit the 1st place St Vital Mustangs Red (6-0). The Mustangs Red have yet to lose a game this season, but like the story of David verses Goliath, there is always a chance for the underdog. Kick-off is Saturday morning at 10:00am in St Vital.

Also in playoff contention is our Atom Grey Raiders (3-3) who are tied for 5th position in the Atom Sunday division together with the North Winnipeg Nomads West team. (The top 8 teams in the Sunday division will go on to see play-off action.) As fate would have it, the Grey Raiders will also be facing the 1st place team in their division: the Fort Garry Lions (6-0). One advantage for the Grey Raiders is that they will have home-field advantage this weekend, as their game takes place at Steinbach's A. D. Penner Park on Sunday afternoon at 12:30pm.

Both of our Terminator teams will have home-games this weekend as well. The Terminator Teal Raiders will host the St James Rods White team on Saturday morning at 11:00am, while the Terminator Grey Raiders will take on the Fort Garry Lions White squad on Sunday morning at 11:00am. Both games are in Steinbach.

Well, there you have it. Plenty of football action to choose from. And here's an great idea: why not invite a friend to join you in watching a game this weekend? Especially someone who doesn't usually get out to see the Raiders. They might even be surprised at the quality of amateur football in Manitoba. And did you know that game admission is free? (Although you might want to bring a couple of bucks to buy a burger or hotdog from the canteen.) So grab your lawn-chair and bag of sunflower seeds and come on out to watch the Raiders! Note: directions to all of the football fields can be found on the locations page.

Atom Grey Raiders come up short verses the Broncos

September 16, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
CHARLESWOOD - What an incredible game the Atom Grey Raiders played today! They may have lost on the scoreboard but to their coaches (and all the spectators) they were the winners. At half-time today they were only down by one point, but just couldn’t hold it at the end against a very “large” Broncos team. Eric Loeppky made his mark, when he ran the opening kickoff all the way back for an opening touchdown. The offense was dominating with their running and fast maneuvers. Darby Gula and Elijah Farley ran the ball extremely well, MacKenzie Hildenbrand blocked and sneaked the ball and quarterback Vital Renaud found his man and sometimes had to change the play quickly. The defense had some very large running backs to contend with but held the 1st place Broncos to their least points scored in a game. Corey Moghaddam, Justin Ducharme, Justin Marchand, Callie Denis, and Ralph Plett led the defense in tackles today. Let us not forget the special teams who returned the kick to give their team excellent field position. Great returns were made by Eric Loeppky and Vital Renaud. Congrats team on a job well done! Final score was Charleswood Broncos Purple 54, Eastman Raiders Grey 33.

Midget Raiders win second in a row, improve to 2-2

Story Image

September 15, 2007
STEINBACH - The Raiders, coming off a 47-1 victory over the Nationals hosted the Greendell Falcons, coming off a loss last week, both teams were looking to improve to 2-2 going into the midway point of the season. Raiders quarterback Kelly Sansregret (#18) would help move the Raiders down field early in the first, finally capping the drive off with a 13 yard TD pass to Nick Watchorn (#33). However both teams were battling strong winds, which led to a defensive battle in the 2nd quarter. Late in the 2nd Sansregret (#18) would hit Luc Ducharme (#77) with a huge 57 yard passing play, which would eventually setup another pass from Sansregret to Ducharme, a 13 yard TD pass making it a 14-7 game. Due to a safety, the Raiders would take a 16-7 lead going into Half-Time. The Raiders defense would step up in the 3rd quarter keep the Falcons offense off the board. In the 4th quarter Sansregret (#18) would add his third TD of the game, hitting Luc Ducharme (#77) again on a 9 yard pass play making it a 23-7 game. The Raiders would finish the game when Raiders CB Justin Wiebe (#30) would pick off the Falcons on the last play of the game, he would proceed to take it 90 yards back down field for a TD, making the final score 30-7. The Raiders will be inviting all Raiders fans down to AD Penner Park next Saturday as they take on the Fort Garry Lions in their last home game of the regular season, kickoff is 12:30 p.m.

Turnovers costly for Bantam Raiders

Story Image

September 15, 2007
CRESCENTWOOD - The Raiders Bantam team were on the road today, trying to bounce back from last week's loss. Things started out on the right note with the Raiders taking the early lead when they hit the endzone for the first major of the game. After Crescentwood tied the game with a score of their own, the Raiders got the ball back and were again in position to score, but they fumbled the ball on the Grizzlies 5 yard line. The mistake was costly, as it seemed to change the flow of the game. A few more fumbles and numerous interceptions later, the Raiders just couldn't keep pace with Crescentwood, and the Grizzlies pulled away to a 43-13 victory. Next Saturday, the Bantam Raiders will try to end their 2-game losing streak when they visit the St Vital Mustangs at Maple Grove Park in Winnipeg.

Peewee Raiders remain undefeated, win 4th straight shut-out

September 15, 2007 - by Jacqueline Letkeman
CRESCENTWOOD - The Peewee Raiders defeated the Crescentwood Grizzlies by a score of 27-0. The Peewees travelled to Winnipeg to face the Crescentwood Grizzlies for their 6th game of the season. The defense did an awesome job again this week by shutting out the Grizzlies for their 4th consecutive shut out. The top tacklers for this game were Corey Simard (#15) with 4 tackles, Brock Letkeman (#22) with 4 tackles, Foster Martens (#20) with 3 tackles, Nathan Hildebrand (#90) with 2 tackles and Matt Brown (#80) also with 2 tackles. The pressure brought on by the defence kept the Grizzlies score to 0 and also caused the Grizzlies to give up a 2 point safety. During this game the Raiders defense had a total of 6 quarterback sacks. Nathan Hildebrand (#90) came up with 2 sacks on his own but had some help from Brock Letkeman (#22) and Ian O'Conner with one. Three other players contributed to the total quarterback sacks as well, Corey Simard (#15), Keenan Unger (#77) and Ian O'Conner. Nathan Hildebrand (#90) had a fumble recovery and also a blocked pass. By way of comparison, at this same point last season, the combined record was: 8 wins, 13 losses, and 1 tie. Well done, Raiders! Atom Grey Raiders beat Grizzlies Orange

September 9, 2007 - by Debbie Renaud
CRESCENTWOOD - The Atom Grey team underwent some changes in positioning during the week and it sure paid off. They came out strong on Sunday and pulled off an outstanding victory, winning 43-13 over the Grizzlies Atom Orange team. The Raiders played well together and made some unbelievable plays. With a new quarterback, a 3 man running team, and strong blocking on the offensive line, they sure made it look easy to put points on the board.  Let's not forget a dominating defensive who made it hard for the Grizzlies to gain any yards, they stopped them in their tracks.  There were a few outstanding runs today by Darby Gula (#20) who ran for more than 300 yards!  Way to go team.

Raiders offense and defense come alive to earn victory

Story Image

September 8, 2007
TRANSCONA - The Raiders battled hard through their first two games of the season, having the toughest starting scheduling of any team in the league. After dropping their first two games to the North Winnipeg Nomads and the St.Vital Mustangs, the Eastman Raiders hit the road on Saturday, hungry for a win in Transcona, and for the fans who made the trip they would not be disappointed. The Raiders opened the game with a touchdown run from Jesse Martens (#34), and would not look back. Martens alone would account for 4 rushing touchdowns on his way to racking up 196 yards rushing, he would also add a 75 yard kickoff return touchdown as well. Raiders slot back Luc Ducharme (#77) would add 2 touchdown catches, one while being blanketed by two defenders in the end zone, en route to 151 yards receiving on the day. Raiders quarterback Kelly Sansregret (#18) finished the day with 2 touchdown passes and 273 yards passing. Defensively the Raiders had their most dominating game of the season, allowing only a single point on a touchback. Defensively it is hard to pick one standout player as the entire defense stepped up pitching a near shutout, as the Nationals made only one trip into Raiders territory, before being intercepted by Joss Gowland (#32) his second interception in as many games, he would also take it 75 yards back the other way before finally being dragged down just shy of the endzone. The Nationals would try to move the ball throw the air and on the ground, but the Raiders defense completely shut down the Transcona offense. The Raiders are back at home next week, Saturday at 12:30pm as they take on the Greendell Falcons looking to even their record approaching the halfway point of the season.

Bantam Raiders shellacked by Fort Garry

Story Image

September 8, 2007
STEINBACH - Ouch! It was an afternoon that the Eastman Bantam Raiders would probably prefer to forget, as the Fort Garry Lions rolled into Steinbach for their Saturday match-up. The Raiders showed unity and readiness in the Raiders shack before the game, but in the end the Raiders could not hold it together. An early turn-over allowed the Lions to jump to a 14-0 lead only minutes after the opening kick-off. The Raiders played without their head coach, who was required to serve a game suspension for last week's improper player substitution. Our team just couldn't seem to advance the ball against the quick Lion's defense, and so the Raiders were kept off of the scoreboard en route to their first loss of the season. However the Raiders did shine when Tylor Fast #54 sacked the quarterback in the 3rd quarter. Even though the team was disappointed with the loss, there were alot lessons learned before and during the game. Final score was Fort Garry 54, Eastman 0.

Peewee Raiders earn fifth victory of the season

September 8, 2007 - by Jacqueline Letkeman
STEINBACH - The Peewees hosted the LaSalle Lightning for the fifth game of the season. Going into the game 4-0, the Raiders were anxious to make it 5-0. The offense struggled with fumbles and incomplete throws for the first half of the game, but once again the defense played a near perfect game by keeping the Lightning off the score board, and even forcing them to give up a 2 point safety in their endzone. In the second half, the offense started connecting and putting more points on the board while the defense continued to play a strong solid game to the end. Total rushing yards for this game was 252 yards with Josh Henry making over half of those yards. AJ Lerma, Blair Holmes, and Cole Machej contributing to the rest of the yards. The points for this game were scored by Blair Holmes with 1 TD, Josh Henry running in 2 TD's, Cole Machej with 1 TD, AJ Lerma with 1 TD and Darius Wilson with a receiving TD, Blair Holmes ran in a convert for a single point and Sebastien Lachance made 2 convert kicks for a total of 4 pts. Our top defensive tacklers for the game were Brock Letkeman with 11 tackles, Matt Brown with 9 tackles, Ian O'Connor with 8 tackles and Nathan Hildebrand with 6 tackles. Barry Nykorak also had a very strong game today and came up with a great Quaterback Sack, Foster Martens had a fumble recovery and Cody Erickson had a knocked down pass.  The Raiders pulled off another win to put them at 5-0 and next week are off to the Crescentwood Grizzlies for an 11:30am game.

Story Image

September 8, 2007
STEINBACH - Football fans witnessed an incredible offensive shoot-out this morning at A. D. Penner Park, as the visiting La Salle Lightning and the home-town Atom Teal Raiders combined for a total of 150 points! (Yes you read that correctly: 150 points.) Unfortunately our team came up short with the final score: La Salle 86, Eastman 64.

La Salle Lightning visit Terminator Teal Raiders

Story Image

September 8, 2007
STEINBACH - This morning marked the first-ever Terminator (age 7-8) match-up between La Salle and Eastman, as the Terminator Teal Raiders hosted the visiting Lightning. The young players are very energetic, eager to learn as much as they can about the basics of football. Of course, since the Terminator games are all about having fun, there is no official score to report.

Game previews: week 5

September 6, 2007
STEINBACH - Going into the fifth week of the football season, the Atom Teal Raiders (2-2) are on a roll and will be trying for their third win in a row. They welcome the La Salle Lightning Atom team (0-4) to A. D. Penner Park in Steinbach on Saturday morning at 10:00am. The Lightning Atom team are looking for their first win which could make them a dangerous opponent for the Raiders.

The Midget Raiders (0-2) are still looking for their first win of the season, and this could be their best chance so far as they travel to Transcona to face the Nationals (0-3) who have yet to post a victory themselves. Game time is Saturday at 12:30pm.

The Peewee Raiders (4-0) will host the La Salle Lightning (0-4) on Saturday at 12:30pm. The Lightning will be hungry to earn their first victory, so hopefully the Raiders won't take them too lightly. This is only the second time that our Peewee team has ever hosted the Lightning, so be sure to provide a warm welcome to their fans and parents who take the trip out to Steinbach. A win for the Raiders would almost certainly guarantee a playoff spot for the team.

The game of the week could be on Saturday at 3:00pm when the Bantam Raiders (3-0) host the Fort Garry Lions (3-0). Both teams are undefeated in the current season, so it should be a competitive football game. The Lions defense has only allowed a total of 7 points all year, so the Raiders offense may have their work cut out for them but it will be a good opportunity for them to put their abilities to the test.

On Sunday, our Atom Grey Raiders (2-2) are looking to get back on track after dropping their past two games. They will be in Crescentwood to face the Grizzlies Orange team (1-3) at 11:00am.

Rounding up the weekend, the Terminator Teal Raiders will play against the La Salle Lightning Red team on Saturday morning at 9:00am in Steinbach, just prior to the Atom game. The Terminator Grey Raiders will visit the Eastside Eagles White team on Sunday at 9:00am.

The Raiders would end the game with a TD toss from Luc Ducharme (#77) to Nick Watchorn (#33).

Bantam Raiders top Eastside Eagles

Story Image

STEINBACH - In a game marked by some undisciplined play and more than a few questionable penalties, the Bantam Raiders managed to come out ahead of the Eastside Eagles by a score of 46-30. Early in the game there was some confusion on the sidelines as the Raiders were assessed a 25-yard bench penalty on a technicality, when they failed to clearly inform the scorekeeper of a player substitution. When the matter resurfaced a minute later, the scorekeeper informed the Raiders that, by rule, he was forced to eject their head coach from the game and assess them with another 25-yard penalty. When the game was finally allowed to resume, the Raiders managed to put plenty of points onto the scoreboard, although the Eagles rallied back with a few excellent long-yardage plays of their own. The victory marks the third straight for the Bantam Raiders who remain undefeated with a record of 3-0. Next Saturday, the Raiders will face the Fort Garry Lions, who are also 3-0 on the season. Should be a great match-up, so don't miss it!

Peewee Raiders second straight shut-out

STEINBACH - The peewees hosted the Eastside Eagles for their fourth game of the season. Playing on this hot and humid day did not effect their enthusiasim to try and come up with another win. The offense seemed to struggle a little bit today, fumbling the ball 3 times and losing the ball with an interception by the Eagles. The touchdowns for this game were run in by Josh (#81), Haden (#8), Blair (#32) with one each, and AJ (#73) running in two. Conversions were made by Haden (#8) and Alex (#2), and Sebastien (#30) kicking one in for two points. The total rushing yards in this game were 262 yards and passing yards were 50 yards. Our defense did their job out there by not allowing the Eagles to score any points and keeping their first downs to a bare minimum. The top four tacklers for this game were Matt (#80) involved in 14 tackles, Brock (#22) involved in 11 tackles, Nathan (#90) involved in 10 tackles and Ian (#99) involved in 8 tackles. Keenan (#77) played hard and came out with two quaterback sacks with Matt (#80) helping out on one of them. Raiders shutdown the Eagles, by a score of 34-0. This gives them four straight wins. Their next game is on Saturday, September 8 verses the LaSalle Lightning. Hope to see you there.

Atom Teal Raiders shut-out Eagles

September 1, 2007 - by Diana Clibbery
STEINBACH - The Atom Teal earned their first shutout of the season when they went up against the Eastside Eagles this morning. From they opening kickoff, with a great tackle by Daniel Mutate (#73), the Raiders were in complete control of this game. Defense, defense, defense - the ground shakes when our boys walk the field. But the star of the game would have to be Tristan Steven (#24), running for all touchdowns. With the help of some great blocking by Justin Krause (#60) we had no trouble coming up the "W" today. Great game boys! The Atom Teals next game is Saturday, September 8 against the LaSalle Lightning at 10am.
